The Brakes

"Breaks on a bus brakes on a car
Breaks to make you a superstar
Breaks to win and breaks to lose
But these here breaks will rock your shoes
And these are the breaks
Break it up break it up break it up!"
~ Kurtis Blow

It's so funny, that moment when you realize you're mad at God; especially when it's in the midst of someone telling you there is no God and you convincing them of the contrary.

I was on the phone with one of my directors whose daughter has been on and off drugs, dropped out of high school, won't hold a job and is now pregnant at 18. As an attempt to try and turn her life around, the mother got her a job in the cafeteria. The mother was in shambles because I had to terminate her daughter for not showing up to work or even bothering to call in for several shifts. The mother said she didn't know what else to do with the daughter, that she's had everything life could offer and chooses to shit on it. I told her all she could do is pray and her reply was, "Pray to who? There is no one to pray to or at least no one is responding or doing anything."

I went on to tell her that God is real and loves her and her daughter more than she could ever understand. As I continued to talk and hear the love and compassion of God come out of my mouth (IN COMPLETE AND UTTER SHOCK might I add) she finally broke down and said I was right, it just hurt. It was funny as I explained how real God was and how much He did want the same things for her daughter as she did, I realized I was slightly miffed w/ God.

The mother was unable to have children so she adopted two orphans from China, raising them on her own. With the mother's education and status along with that of her husband, there was nothing they were not able to provide for their children. Ironic how some people scrap and fight for an opportunity while others are handed the world and shit on it. I've seen so many affluent buy their kids cars, houses, ivy league educations and they end up waiting tables while others work day and night, sacrifice and struggle but never catch a break...I guess these are the breaks.
